Organizers have the ability to assign permissions based on the session format and requirements. We can assign three different roles for live breakout sessions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Speakers <\/strong>are attendees who might appear within the speakers page or have a public profile elsewhere on the attendees side of the platform.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hosts <\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">usually indicate the people within the organizing team who could have superior technical capabilities and enables them to jump into session if\/when required. It is likely for some of your sessions that a presenter could be set to either a speaker and a host. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Viewers<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\"> are usually the general event attendees. This is the default role for all the attendees added on the session.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\"><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"background: #eef4ff;border-left: 4px solid #3b82f6;padding: 12px 16px;margin: 16px 0;border-radius: 4px\"><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If the live breakout session is in <strong>webinar <\/strong>mode, viewer can only view and listen during the meeting &#8211; they cannot turn on their camera or microphone. In <strong>meeting <\/strong>mode, viewers will be able to share their video, audio and raise their hand.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">How to assign roles (Host, speaker or viewer):<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>1. Access the console and select <strong>Sessions. <\/strong>From the list of sessions, go into the live breakout which you wish to assign a host\/speaker to.<\/p>\n<p>2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and here you&#8217;ll find different tabs, click on the <strong>Attendees<\/strong> tab.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Select<\/span><strong> Add attendee<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\"> button and <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">search for the attendees name and <\/span><strong>submit<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">. <\/span>Upon pulling through the attendee, next to their name you&#8217;ll find the option to <strong>set as host or speaker &#8212; <\/strong>select accordingly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For better comparison,<strong> <\/strong>below are the <strong>different permissions <\/strong>for hosts, speakers and viewers available in a live breakout session.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"article-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.knowledge-base.canapii.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/12-jpg.jpeg\" style=\"max-width: 100%;height: auto\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"article-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.knowledge-base.canapii.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/13-jpg.jpeg\" style=\"max-width: 100%;height: auto\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Live breakout sessions using Canapii&#8217;s video conferencing tool works very similarly with zoom or teams meeting rooms.
